Georgia Institute of Cosmetology

Today was my orientation. It was actually uneventful. We spent two hours going over the rules and regulations which were very lengthy. There were four other girls there, two were about 18 years old, and two were in their 30's. They are all going to attend school full time in the day. The instructor told me that I was the only new night student. I wasn't sure if she meant that, or that I was the only student who is enrolled to go at night. My first class is on Tuesday night. I am completely committed to this for the next 18 months. I have off all major holidays including one week of Christmas ending on Jan. 1. I do NOT have off for spring break or summer at all. My instructor is a lady I haven't met yet. Part of my time there will be in theory class where I will learn the state's requirements for sanitation procedures. I will then practice at the "mannequin bar", which is a long counter with holders for your mannequin heads. I will have to learn everything from parting the hair in various ways to rolling hair for perms, how to cut and color, ect. After I have completed 250 hours I will be allowed to work on live humans. Hopefully I won't butcher anyone. This is a big step for me. I feel very excited about it. I feel like I am fulfilling the need that I have in me to create things. More later once I start classes! And yes, I plan to post pictures! I will have people take my picture working on my mannequin head. I don't care if I look like a dork!

Aww, this is so exciting!! I'm so happy for you! Well if you're scared of butchering someone's hair, I don't think you can go wrong if you start out cutting less hair off than you think you should. You can always cut more hair off but you can't add it!!!!!

YESSSSS! less is more...you can't be too careful if you cut less. problems arise when you cut off TOO much......... or if you inadvertently add "bangs" on a man's hair......
