Tuesday, December 9th, I had enough hours to go on the floor at school. I am cutting hair on actual humans! I have not abandoned my mannequins. I still need them to practice color and state board tests. So, on my first night handling clients, there were no clients! I am in class from 5-7pm, so I take clients after 7 at night, and not too many people come in at that time. Today, however, I had two clients! My first haircut was a little girl. Her mom was so nice, and she just wanted me to trim the girls hair and bangs. The little girl was very wiggly, but I was professional and tried to distract her by asking her about her visit with Santa. I did a great job, and even checked the bangs for cowlicks. Calysta has a major cowlick and so the way to do it is to cut the bangs while they are dry and already fallen in place, otherwise, they will be crooked. The mom was very pleased and gave me a one dollar tip! (haircuts at the school are only five bucks) I was nervous and sweating bullets, but I didn't let her see that. So then my next client was a man with hair about five inches long. I went for help from my instructor because it takes me an hour to cut Charlies hair and I didn't want the guys clothes to go out of style while waiting for me to finish his hair. I ended up cutting the top, and my instructor cut the rest while I observed. I am beginning to recognize "weight lines" in the hair where the lines when held at a 90 degree angle are not straight and need to be trimmed. He gave me a three dollar tip! I am eager to get more comfortable with myself in cutting hair. Also, bad news.......My favorite instructor who is awesome with hair color might move to mornings...
So in short, I had a great night, I didn't butcher anyone, and I am really loving what I do. It felt so good to transform someone and make them look good! More stories to come, I am sure. I am also considering making a hairstylist blog. There are many things I could put in it, like tips on how to care for your hair, ect. We will see....I have to find the time to do it!

A hairstyle blog would be awesome!! I'm so proud of your hair cutting abilities!! I will be glad when you can cut my hair because I think you'll understand what I want and what I'm looking for I want unlike some of these other people. The hair business is kind of like the sign business...You have some who have the business and know what they're doing, and others who have the business and have no clue what they're doing, except when it comes to people's hair...Things can get ugly. HAHAHA.
I think you'll do great and I can't wait til you graduate and I can see you do what you love!
oops, I think I put in some extra words up there that weren't supposed to be. oh well
