* He walked around the house while brushing his teeth.(this still baffles me)
* He sprinkled salt on his apple while he ate it.
* He cut his toenails like twice a year, and they were huge
* When he locked the doors at night before bed, I could hear his bones cracking as he walked.
* He would announce out of the blue, "We are all going to Thriftys for an icecream cone!" which cost .20 cents each, by the way.
* The famous Donald duck impression.
* He got very excited about Haggen Daas honey vanilla icecream.
* We all used to attack him and wrestle until Luke and I got too big and we were told we couldn't attack him anymore after we almost broke his bones.
* Family meetings on the couch, where we were told to obey and respect our mother and do our chores.
* The impromptu family meeting in the minivan just before going in to eat at Dennys, where we were threatened within an inch of our lives.
* When we were bad he would take off his belt but even though he never once whipped us with it, it was the scariest thing ever.
* He got very excited about Blue bell banana pudding icecream.
* He would take us on occasion to work with him or to a small job where we would beg for him to stop at mcdonalds and buy us any form of junk food.
* He liked to turn the headlights off and scream while driving on a winding mountain rode in the night. He also liked to drive to the edge of a cliff and scream like we were going to fall off. (this still gives me bad dreams)
* He would blast the Beatles on the stereo and we would all dance and go nuts.
* His whistling..especially the bird impressions.
* His obsession with computers and infomercials.
* He tickled us until we peed in our pants, and asked us if we had enough and no matter what our answer was, he kept on tickling.
* The deadly grip on the knees.
* He was content to walk all through the mall without going into a single store.
* I think he wore the same flip flops my entire childhood.
* Everytime we got out of the car he announced, "everybody out of the motorcar!"
I do that now with my kids!
* He is very funloving and a great dad. I love you dad!

Aww, this is so sweet. I love it and have the same great memories (except I don't remember Thrifty's ice cream or the Denny's talk). I can see how a lot of us have the same type of personality as him.
he's still the same....except he creaks more...and the new child to attack him is the dog....JOY
that must have been one heck of a pair of flip flops! ;-)
The short response:
"Great collection of memories. Describes me perfectly"
The long response:
"Great collection of memories. Describes me perfectly and any further response wouldn't be in keeping with my happy-go-lucky lifestyle."
Thank you for the tears this brought to my eyes. I'll never be known for great wisdom and all that other mushy stuff . . . and that's just the way I like it!
Arne and I remember the FLIP FLOPS he wore! HA HA! That is so funny! I can just see him now! We love you guys...Jeannine and Arne
Thrifty's sold ice cream!!!! I remember that!!...wasn't that a drug store that happened to sell ice cream cones? how weird.
ahh, the flip flops, and I LOVE blue bell banana pudding ice cream, is there any other?? driving off the cliff and turning the headlights off always makes me laugh when I think of mom's response when he did this..."cecilllll STOOOOOP!", in her high worried mom voice (that I impersonate so well). I tell my kids to "get out of the motorcar" in an english accent (maybe that's where vangie gets her accent from). Planning secretly from the back of the van "i scream you scream we all scream for ice cream!". And every time I walk up mom and dad's stairs I hear my own feet cracking on the wooden steps. we always knew to be quiet in bed and stop talking when we heard the cracking coming. GREAT POST noelle!!!!!!
